Our four registered Nigerian dwarf goats, Ruby, Leeloo, Sam, and Bouie, are basically the farm’s built-in comedy show. They’ve also been genuinely useful as “movable mowers,” helping us manage grass and weeds in areas where we want a natural, low-impact approach. Nigerian dwarfs are compact, curious, and full of personality, and they thrive with consistent routines and good fencing. Whether they’re climbing, bouncing around, or coming over to see what you’re doing, they keep the place lively.
We raise a flock of Coturnix quail, and many of them carry the celadon gene that produces those really neat blue eggs. Quail are one of our favorite homestead birds because they’re small, quiet, and efficient. They don’t need a ton of space compared to chickens, and they’re easy to handle once you get a feel for them.
Coturnix quail also have a fast turnaround compared to most livestock. They hatch quickly, grow fast, and can be ready for processing in about 8 weeks. That quick cycle makes them a practical choice for people who want a reliable source of eggs and meat without a long wait.
Our duck flock includes a handful of Pekin, Rouen, and Cayuga ducks. Ducks are great for farm life because they’re hardy, they’re excellent foragers, and they do a solid job hunting bugs in damp areas. Duck eggs, when available, are rich and bake really well, so they’re a favorite for some of our customers. Plus, ducks just have that unmistakable duck energy, and it’s always entertaining.
We hope to soon offer bags of composted manure, a mix of poultry, horse, and rabbit. It’s a solid option for gardeners looking to improve soil naturally.
